It is generally accepted that dogs whine when they hear sirens, horns etc as a sympathetic response to what they percieve as another animal 'gathering up the pack'. Frantz was in fine voice in 2011, as his family were away in Europe. Solitary caged or tethered dogs are bound to whine until they get some company.
